Town of Bernalillo Youth Conservation Corps Outing!
The more young people in New Mexico that enjoy and learn about the Rio Grande, the better. Youth leadership can help us take better care of the Rio Grande now and in the future. To that end, Quiet Waters Paddling Adventures welcomes the Town of Bernalillo's Youth Conservation Corps for an afternoon of recreation and education along the Rio Grande
Objectives for this event will include:
- Raise the visibility of the Rio Grande in the Bernalillo area as a recreational and educational resource
- Learn the basics of controlling canoes and kayaks on moving water
- Learn about the conservation and environmental issues facing the river
- Expand youth experiences/connections to nature and the outdoors, and . . .
- Have Fun!
We'll welcome approximately 30 youth, as well as staff from the Town of Bernalillo's award-winning Youth Conservation Corps. Established in 2006, this community-based project has provided work and learning opportunities to dozens of unemployed youth, teaching valuable employment, construction and life skills to many disadvantaged kids through restoration projects on various properties within the Town of Bernalillo. This year's Corps members will enjoy an afternoon of recreation and learning along a seven mile stretch of the Rio Grande, followed with a picnic at Bernalillo's Coronado Campground . Please contact the Town of Bernalillo for further information.
